Jill McCabe Johnson (2008) is offering two bedrooms at her Kangaroo House B&B on Orcas Island for writers willing to do a work trade exchange (chores and gardening) from June through September. According to Jill, “the accommodations are much more basic than our inn rooms, and the work is physical, but the situation is great for someone who wants to spend the summer writing in the San Juan Islands.” Contact Jill through 1459 North Beach Road, Eastsound-Orcas Island, WA, 98245 USA or at [email protected].

Peggy Shumaker is leading Artsmith’s Fall 2014 Writer Island Workshop entitled, “Geographies of the Mind and Heart.” Twelve spots are available, including one recipient of the new Doug and Anne Johnson Scholarship. If you’re interested in the retreat and/or scholarship, you can read more about it here: http://orcasartsmith.org/workshops.html.

The application period for the 2015 Artsmith Artist Residency is open now through September 15. The residency provides lodging and five meals for up to five writers, artists, and scholars, and will take place January 4-11, 2015, in the San Juan Islands.
